As states and districts work to combat chronic absenteeism in K-12, out-of-school-time providers are essential partners in boosting student engagement and attendance. Emma Banay, Hedy Chang, and Jodi Grant underscore the proven impact of high-quality programs on reducing school-day absences and urge decision-makers to prioritize them as more than an “expendable extra.”
With the expiration of ESSER funds, out-of-school programs—key beneficiaries of federal stimulus dollars—may be at risk of disinvestment in schools nationwide. Emma Banay points to the irreplaceable role high-quality out-of-school-time programs play in children's holistic development, calling for school, district, and state leaders to prioritize these programs as more than a nice-to-have.
In Q3 2024, our foundation awarded 69 grants totaling over $16.5 million. Here, we highlighted just some of the direct impact and ecosystem organizations we’re proud to support this quarter.
In 2023, Overdeck Family Foundation disbursed $53.5 million to almost 100 grantee organizations, collectively reaching over 66 million children, 3.9 million families, and 500,000 educators nationwide. Our 2023 Grantmaking & Impact Report highlights what our grantmaking accomplished and uplifts the successes of the organizations we fund.
In Q3 2023, our foundation awarded 46 grants totaling over $19 million. Of these, two were to organizations new to our foundation, eight were renewals, 16 were disbursements for ongoing pledges, and 20 covered additional grantee supports, membership fees, and convenings. Here, we highlight just some of the organizations we’re proud to support in the third quarter.

Even before the pandemic, NAEP scores for students saw unprecedented declines, especially in math. Afterschool STEM programming plays a unique role in promoting academic outcomes, supporting social-emotional development, and leveraging the home and community environments as places for extended learning. That's why Overdeck Family Foundation aims to make high-quality afterschool STEM accessible to all students.
