With a mission to improve health, transform care, and disrupt inequitable systems through its Centering model of group care, Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) partners with healthcare practices to offer group-based prenatal (CenteringPregnancy) and pediatric (CenteringParenting) medical care to pregnant women and their babies. These billable two-hour group visits, which are covered by private and public insurance, include a 1:1 health assessment with a medical provider followed by a facilitated discussion and a community of support.
Centering’s evidence-based model, shown to reduce racial disparities and improve health outcomes, has a positive impact on lowering the risk of preterm birth, supporting healthy parent-child interactions, and increasing parental behaviors that lead to positive life outcomes for children.
Not only does CHI’s model of care show measurable impact on parent and child outcomes, but it is often more cost effective than the status quo, leading Georgia, South Carolina, New Jersey, and New York to expand Medicaid coverage for CenteringPregnancy and several additional states to initiate limited pilots.
Overdeck Family Foundation supports CHI in their efforts to continue to grow and scale their program. Other funders include Valhalla Charitable Trust, Bezos Family Foundation, Pritzker Children’s Initiative, Imaginable Futures, MacKenzie Scott, Richard W. Goldman Family Foundation, The Burke Foundation, The Nicholson Foundation, and The Henry & Marilyn Taub Foundation.
