Officer, Research & Impact
Emily Hanno, Research & Impact Officer, supports efforts to assess the impact and return on investment of the Foundation’s grantmaking and research portfolio. She partners across teams and with grantees to strengthen the use of evidence, cost-effectiveness, and data-driven decision-making in education.
Emily has 15 years of experience in the education field. Most recently, she was a Senior Research Associate at MDRC, a national research firm, where she led large-scale research and development projects in education. She also previously served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Saul Zaentz Early Education Initiative, where she oversaw research as part of a state-wide longitudinal study on children’s early educational experiences. Emily began her career with Teach For America, where she served as a Pre-K teacher and instructional coach in Houston.
Emily holds a Ph.D. in Education Policy and Program Evaluation and Ed.M. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Relations from Tufts University. From her home base in Jersey City, she enjoys seeing as much theater as possible and taking on craft and home projects.
