Project Description
This study evaluates the impact of ANet’s Project Compass, a formative assessment tool designed to support data-driven instruction and effective use of high-quality instructional materials, on middle school math achievement. The study will include a pilot phase followed by a large-scale evaluation across multiple districts and schools, with students in treatment settings using Compass compared to peers receiving business-as-usual instruction. Data collection includes student achievement measures, teacher and leader surveys, and focus groups to understand both outcomes and instructional changes. The study will examine how teachers use assessment data to adjust instruction, how usage varies across contexts, and whether access to actionable data improves rigor and student learning outcomes.
Research Questions
- What is the impact of Project Compass on students’ math achievement and learning?
- To what extent do impacts vary across student demographic groups?
- How do teachers use Project Compass, and how does it influence their instructional practices?
