Access to Afterschool Programs Remains a Challenge for Many Families

Project Description

This reports on a nationally-representative survey of 1,489 adults who are the parent or guardian of a school-age child who lives in their household regarding access to and satisfaction with afterschool programs in their community. The survey was conducted in May and June of 2022.

Research Questions

  • What is the landscape of afterschool programs for school-age children?

Key Findings

More than eight in 10 parents agree that all young people deserve access to quality afterschool and summer programs (83 percent) and favor public funding for afterschool programs in communities that have few opportunities for children and youth (88 percent).
