Project Description

This paper explores three QED evaluations of LENA Grow’s support of children’s school kindergarten readiness in school districts in Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Research Questions

  • How does LENA Grow support children’s conversational turns in the classroom?

Key Findings

In Kentucky, children in LENA Grow were 2.7 times more likely to score at or above average in language skills compared to a matched comparison group, but there were no differences in kindergarten readiness. In South Carolina, LENA Grow children were 1.8 times more likely to demonstrate readiness in language and literacy and 1.6 times more likely to demonstrate overall readiness compared to a matched group of children. In Tennessee, LENA Grow children were 2.4 times more likely to demonstrate kindergarten readiness in ELA.
