Project Description
A research team from Gallup conducted a nationally representative survey of nearly 7,000 parents across the U.S. Parents reported on their children’s learning experiences during the summer of 2023. Parents also provided demographic information on themselves and their child. The team used sampling and survey weighting methodologies to ensure that findings would be nationally representative.
Research Questions
- What summer learning opportunities do districts offer, as reported by superintendents?
Key Findings
Findings revealed that 30 million youth in the U.S.—about 55 percent—out of 54 million K-12 students participated in an organized summer program experience in 2023. Ten million low-income students (38 percent) out of 25 million participated in programs, compared to 67 percent of higher-income peers.
