The Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences (I-LABS), a research lab at the University of Washington, is dedicated to discovering the fundamental principles of human learning, with a special emphasis on early learning and brain development.
A 2019 I-LABS study funded by Overdeck Family Foundation found that a minimal amount of parent coaching can enrich parental language interactions and positively impact child language outcomes. In this study, parents who received three 45-minute coaching sessions showed a significantly increased quality of language interaction with their child compared to control subjects. Additionally, infants in families who received coaching showed accelerated language development that was correlated with the quality and not the quantity of language interactions.
