Overdeck Family Foundation, in partnership with Simons Foundation, helped DonorsChoose.org launch its Science Everywhere initiative, which encouraged teachers to promote hands-on, engaging science and math projects outside the classroom. The collaboration provided over 100,000 students with an out-of-school opportunity to explore their interests in STEM.
In the 2016-2017 school year, the collaboration led to funding for more than 1,000 math and science projects taking place outside of class time. DonorsChoose.org then invited teachers to replicate the 10 most innovative projects for a 5x match offer, resulting in more than 600 projects being fully funded in less than two weeks!
The most popular projects were take-home kits and experiments; nearly ⅓ of participating projects focused on launching or supporting robotics clubs at schools.
