Who We Are

Who We Are

Overdeck Family Foundation was founded in 2011 by John and Laura Overdeck with the goal of providing all children the opportunity to unlock their potential. We focus exclusively on improving American education, supporting research and organizations that strengthen learning in and out of the classroom to measurably improve outcomes at scale for all children in the U.S.

We believe improving children’s ability to learn is the key to creating a better future for everyone.

To accomplish our mission, we fund work that improves each stage of childhood learning, from birth to graduation. One-third of our funding supports research efforts that drive the field forward and the remaining two-thirds supports organizations that bring ideas into the field.

The Foundation’s five focus areas are early childhood, educators, schools, out of school STEM opportunities, and the use of data, including education data, to improve policy and practice. Our investments, though diverse, are uniformly committed to achieving our mission–and demonstrate our commitment to real-world impact, communities, and collaboration.
